2003年の『Hail To The Thief』以来4年ぶり、Thom Yorkeの初ソロ作を挟み、Radiohead通算7枚目のオリジナル・アルバムがリリース!本作は2007年10月よりCDに先駆けてバンドのオフィシャル・サイトでダウンロード発売、しかもその手法は購入価格を購入者が決めるという、これまでの音楽ソフト販売の常識を大きく覆すもので、このニュースは音楽専門誌だけではなく、新聞などでも大きな話題になりました。アップテンポなギター・ロック・ナンバーの「Jigsaw Falling Into Place」や「Bodysnatchers」、『OK Computer』時に制作された未完成曲を新たにレコーディングした「Nude」、美しく壮大なバラード曲「All I Need」ほか全10曲を収録。

本作は、レディオヘッドがシーンの野党第一党だということを再認識させるアルバムである。もちろん彼らはいつだって最大の野党だったが、前作『Hail To The Thief』にはバンドの行き詰まり感をみずから語るムードが確実にあった。しかしここではその閉塞感を突破するべく、かつてない情熱で描かれた楽曲が披露されている。もっと言えば、『OK Computer』にあった青白いエナジーを遥かに凌ぐ創造性に満ちているのだ。グライムっぽい性急なビートや、脳髄を揺さぶるゴツいグルーヴ、エロティックなトリップ・ホップ、獣的なポリリズムが縦断し、あらゆる感情の揺れがギミックではない必然性のなかで展開されていく。ロックによる乱調の美は、ここに極まった。正真正銘の最高傑作である。
