Netflixにて配信、映画『ザ・プロム』のサウンドトラック。大ヒットブロードウェイミュージカル『The Prom』をglee/グリーの脚本家で知られるライアン・マーフィーが監督として映画化。
ニューヨークの人気舞台俳優であるディーディー・アレン (メリル・ストリープ) とバリー・グリックマン (ジェームズ・コーデン) は、資金を注ぎ込んだ新作ブロードウェイミュージカルで大失敗。一方、インディアナ州の田舎町では、女子高校生のエマ・ノーラン (ジョー・エレン・ペルマン) が校長 (キーガン=マイケル・キー) のサポートも及ばず、PTA会長 (ケリー・ワシントン) から、友達のアリッサ (アリアナ・デボース) と共ににプロムに参加することを禁止され、落ち込んでいた。ディーディーとバリーは、これを利用し自分たちのイメージを回復するため、同じく成功への足掛かりを探していた、アンジー (ニコール・キッドマン)、トレント (アンドリュー・ラネルズ) と共にエマのもとへ。しかし彼ら有名人の自分勝手な活動が裏目に出てしまうが、その後エマに最高のプロムを届けたいと思った4人の人生も大きく変わっていくことになる。
今回のサウンドトラックにはミュージカルで使用されている16曲すべてが含まれ、メリル・ストリープ、ジェームズ・コーデン、ニコール・キッドマンなど出演者により新たにレコーディングされた音源を収録している。

The soundtrack for Disney's 2011 teen comedy-drama Prom features a playlist that leans heavily on angst-fueled emo-pop, quirky indie rock, and likeable, vapid punk-pop, all of which dutifully reflect the dizzying, cruel, innocent, and self-absorbed world of high school, or more specifically, the nervy lead up to the polarizing, annual formal dance that falls near the end of junior and/or senior year. Predictable, but mostly enjoyable, Prom plays it safe with by-the-numbers, '90s alt-rock covers like the Cranberries' “Dreams” (Passion Pit) and Supergrass' “We’ll Be Alright” (Travie McCoy), but stand-out cuts like the melodic, house-fueled, John Hughes-inspired grandiosity of “Your Surrender” (Neon Trees), the gentle folk-pop of “Please Speak Well of Me” (the Weepies) and Opus Orange featuring Lauren Hillman's lovely, trance-like “Almost There” successfully convey a long night filled with awkward, memorable moments, first and last kisses, confetti, laughter, and tears. ~ James Christopher Monger
