アレックス・ウィンター監督(「代表作ビルとテッドの大冒険」)によるフランク・ザッパのドキュメンタリー映画『Zappa』には、フランクの未亡人ゲイル・ザッパや、マイク・キーナリー、イアン・アンダーウッド、スティーヴ・ヴァイ、パメラ・デス・バレス、バンク・ガードナー、デヴィッド・ハリントン、スコット・チューンズ、ルース・アンダーウッド、レイ・ホワイトなど、ザッパゆかりの人々が出演しています。
このサントラは、映画を完璧に補完するものであり、ザッパ・ファン垂涎の作品となっています。

5LP盤には68曲収録。内容は1978年のサタデー・ナイト・ライブでのパフォーマンスに加え、ザッパのアーカイブから未発表の12曲、40年に及ぶ膨大なカタログの中からの24曲、アリス・クーパーの"No Longer Umpire"やGTO'sの"The Captain's Fat Theresa Shoes"など、ザッパのレーベルSTRAIGHT / BIZARRE RECORDSの楽曲が収録されてます。
エドガルド・ヴァレーゼとイゴール・ストラヴィンスキーによる2つのクラシック曲、そしてジョン・フリッゼルがこのドキュメンタリーのために新たに作曲した26のオリジナル・スコアなどの楽曲も収録されています。
