SACDハイブリッド盤。マリン・オールソップ率いるフィラデルフィア管弦楽団がガーシュウィンの『ポーギーとベス』のハイライトを豪華キャストとともにライヴ収録しました!
ガーシュウィン晩年の1935年に作曲された全3幕9場からなるこのオペラは、様式的にはミュージカルの先駆的な存在であり、ジャズ、ブルースをクラシックに取り入れた最も重要な作品といえます。その内容は、1920年代初頭アメリカ南部の町に住む貧しいアフリカ系アメリカ人の生活を描いており、土着の音楽であるジャズや黒人音楽を用いて作られており、そのメロディアスな歌唱が楽しめるのが最大の魅力。このハイライトでは「サマータイム」「うちの人は逝ってしまった」「くたびれもうけ」「ベス、お前は俺のもの」「そんなことはどうでもいいさ」「アイ・ラブ・ユー、ポーギー」「おお主よ、出発します」といった『ポーギーとベス』の主要曲を含む22曲を収録しており、レスター・リンチがポーギー役をエンジェル・ブルーがベス役を担当するなど、豪華な顔ぶれにも注目です。2020年3月、新型コロナウィルスのパンデミック直前に収録された貴重なライヴ録音となりました。
