ブリテンの最高傑作の一つを、グラスバーグによる切れ味よいタクトと色彩感豊かな心理描写で

伝統あるベルギーのモネ劇場によるブリテンの歌劇《ねじの回転》。
とある少年と少女の元へやってきた新任の女性家庭教師が、子供たちと、彼らを連れ去ろうと狙う亡霊たちとのやり取りに追い詰められていくという、サイコホラーです。
指揮は、コロナ禍直前の2020年1月に東京交響楽団との共演で初来日も成功させた、イギリスの若き俊英ベン・グラスバーグ。小編成のアンサンブルから実に色彩豊かな響きを導き出しています。メイン・キャストの家庭教師を演じるのは、グラインドボーンの《ルサルカ》(DVD: OA1302D/BD: OABD7266D/NYDX-50106)でもダイナミックな歌唱と切々とした表情を両立する素晴らしい演技を見せたサリー・マシューズ。ここでも徐々に追い詰められていく表現が実に見事。
2021年4月に上演された舞台が非常に高い評価を受け、その後すぐにセッション録音されたアルバムです。
