フレディ・クロウリー率いるコーヴァス・コンソートによるのCHANDOS第2作。前作のサクソフォン四重奏との共演(CHAN20260)で注目を集めた彼らが、今作では女声合唱とハープのための音楽に焦点を当てています。アルバムの中心となるのは、グスターヴ・ホルストの女声合唱作品で、『二つの東洋の絵』、『葬送歌と祝婚歌』、そして『リグ・ヴェーダからの合唱賛歌』の3曲を収録。女学校での教職経験を持ち、女声合唱の推進者でもあったホルストならではの繊細かつ抒情的な作品です。他には、ホルストの娘イモージェンや彼女と同世代の女性作曲家エリザベス・ポストンの作品、さらに近現代の女性作曲家たちの作品も収録されています。また、インド生まれでアメリカを拠点に作品を発表している作曲家シュルティ・ラジャカセルがホルストと同様に「リグ・ヴェーダ」からインスピレーションを受けて作曲した2曲の世界初録音作品も聴くことができます。教会のまろやかな響きを生かした美しいハーモニーを高音質録音で捉えたSACDハイブリッド盤での発売です。
