1964 US Albums In Mono＜限定盤＞

世界的なBeatles旋風の60周年を記念して、主に1964年にアメリカでリリースされたThe Beatlesのアルバム群がモノ・ミックスの新たなアナログ盤として蘇る。

『The Beatles:1964 US Albums In Mono』は、1964年1月から1965年3月までのあいだにアメリカでリリースされた7作のアルバムに焦点を当てたボックス・セット。
オリジナル・モノ・マスターからカッティングした180グラム仕様。収録のアルバムは全てオリジナルを忠実に再現したアートワークを使用。さらに、今回新たに付属する二つ折りのインサートには、米国のビートルズ研究家/作家のブルース・スパイザーによるエッセイが掲載。また、ラッカー盤のカッティングは、ケヴィン・リーヴスがナッシュヴィルにあるイースト・アイリス・スタジオで新たに手がけた。これらのアルバムはオリジナル・マスター・テープを使用し、アナログ盤にカッティングされている。またその際、アナログの信号経路のみを使用し、オリジナル・アルバムの最初期のプレスの音を常に参照しながら作業を進めていった。
今回のアナログ盤は、マスター・レコーダーにアナログ・プレビュー/プログラム・パスの機能を備えたスチューダー・A80を、カッティング・マシンには1971年にキャピトル・スタジオに設置されたノイマン・VMS70を使用して制作された。こうしてカッティングの全工程をアナログ機材により進めることで、オリジナル・テープに記録された音域とダイナミクスを忠実に表現することが可能となっている。

Beatlemania really struck the U.S. in 1964 when, hot on the heels of the number one single "I Want to Hold Your Hand," the Fab Four crossed the pond to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. Their American record label, Capitol, had a bit of catching up to do, as the group had already released their first album and some singles in the U.K and around the world. To that end, the label repackaged and reissued the bands music, starting with Meet the Beatles! on through The Beatles Second Album, A Hard Days Night, Something New, The Beatles Story, Beatles 65, and The Early Beatles. Too often these albums were saddled with poor mixes, done without the bands input. This collection remedies that situation by using original analog tapes and taking great care to get the best possible sound. They also add stuff for collectors like new essays and images derived from the original tape boxes. Its a lavish, well-considered and executed set that makes for quite the splurge for a Beatles fan with a nice phonograph set. ~ Tim Sendra
