Although she had already embarked on a nascent pop music career before debuting in the popular Disney Channel musical franchise Zombies with 2025s ZOMBIES 4: DAWN OF THE VAMPIRES (playing Nova Bright), Freya Skye delivered her first solo EP, stardust, the following year. Released when she was 16 years old, it includes the Billboard Hot 100 hit "silent treatment," a song about someone showing interest and then going incommunicado. A set of youthful-but-not-naive relationship songs, other tracks include songs with titles like "petty," "whyd you have to call," and the also confrontational "golden boy," which includes the tea-spilling couplet "Youre such a good actor/I guess you had me fooled." Defiant and striding throughout her disappointments, the only track that qualifies as a ballad here is the more sympathetic "Maybe Tomorrow," although it still finds her frustrated and confused, landing on the phrase, "Boysll just do what they do" to close the chorus. One of that songs co-writers was Em Beihold, one of ten additional songwriters who contributed to the EP; among the others were pop singers Julia Michaels and Sophie Simmons and the Grammy-winning songwriting/production team Mattman & Robin. The stardust EP became a Top 40 hit in Skyes native U.K. and also charted in the U.S. ~ Marcy Donelson
