LA発のシンガー・ソングライター=Malcolm Todd(マルコム・トッド)が放つセカンド・アルバム『Do That Again』

マルコム・トッドは2003年生まれ、アメリカ ロサンゼルス出身のシンガーソングライター。2023年に発表したシングル「Art House」と「Roommates」がTikTokで話題となり、コロンビア・レコードと契約。この2曲は2024年にリリースされたミックステープ『Sweet Boy』に収録されている。マルコム・トッドの音楽はインディー・ポップとR&Bを融合したスタイルで、遊び心がありながらもメランコリックなリズムは、ベッドルーム・ポップ・シーンと2010年代オルタナティヴR&Bから強く影響を受けている。また、同じくシンガーソングライターとして活躍しているAudrey Hobert(オードリー・ホバート)を姉に持つことでも知られている。

The follow-up to his full-length debut, Sweet Boy, Do That Again finds Malcolm Todd continuing to bounce between guitar pop, insular bedroom pop, and quasi-smooth-soul balladry, although our formerly youthfully awkward protagonist, having gotten the girl, is now in aftermath of a breakup. The set starts with lustful tunes like "Jean Skirt" and "Obsessica," a song that, despite its pining nature, eventually ends with him listing off over a dozen additional women hes "for real" obsessed with. The L.A. native goes on to regret mistakes made ("Free.99"), consider sexual transgressions with friends ("Breathe"), and more generally miss his ex in other kinds of understandable and inappropriate ways. ("You get a pass if you look good/It sucks, but its the truth.") He seems to accept his circumstances by the arrival of the albums wistful, album-ending title track -- at least before asking to go back in time and "do that again." Many of his fans were feeling his pain and candidness; the album catapulted Todd into the U.S. Top Five.
