60年代に開催されていた幻のフォーク・ミュージック・フェスティヴァルが2枚組CDで今蘇る『The Village Out West: The Lost Tapes of Alan Oakes』

米国においてフォーク復興運動が盛んだった1958年から70年にかけ、カリフォルニア州バークレーで毎年開催されていた〈バークレー・フォーク・ミュージック・フェスティヴァル〉。このフェスティバルは西海岸で最も著名となったニューポート・フォーク・フェスティヴァルに先駆け、ピート・シーガー、ドック・ワトソン、ハウリン・ウルフなどの才人たちを西海岸の聴衆たちに紹介した重要なイヴェントだった。そんな同フェスティヴァルの幻の貴重ライヴ音源をCD2枚に収めたのが本作。

ドック・ワトソン、ニュー・ロスト・シティ・ランブラーズ、ミシシッピ・フレッド・マクダウェル他、フォーク～オールドタイム・ミュージック～ブルース界の伝説たちによる名演がたっぷりと収められているのはもとより、当時NYグリニッジ・ヴィレッジ・シーンの影に隠れて過小評価されがちだったカリフォルニア・フォーク・シーンの若手ミュージシャンたちによるフレッシュなパフォーマンスも網羅されている。
